Workshop

Designing Connected Products

New ecosystems of connected services and devices add unique complexities to UX design and strategy. This workshop will explore some of the key challenges and opportunities that make UX for the internet of things a little different. Through hands-on exercises focusing on designing for consumers, you’ll learn about:

- Communicating what it does and how it works: the need for solid value propositions and conceptual models of the system
- Interusability: designing cross-device interactions for devices with different capabilities
- Network quirks in the physical world: on the web, we understand that downloads are sometimes slow and Skype calls can fail. But we’re not used to real world objects exhibiting these quirks. Handling latency and reliability issues gracefully is a key UX challenge for IoT designers.
