Workshop

Structured Content Modelling

Content modeling atomises complex subjects into the things people think about, describing the wibbly-wobbly ways these things connect. Structured content mirrors the way we explore knowledge. Links become informative, building bridges between concepts.

Maximise investment in content by restructuring, reusing and remixing. Improve reach, SEO and findability. Stitch products into the fabric of the web; natural to explore and easy to share.

This workshop teaches you about the fundamentals of structured content and how to build content models. We’ll cover how a content model expresses a subject and informs site structure. You’ll create your own model and leave with tools to use straight away.

Through talks, case studies and exercises, we’ll cover
• Researching your subject
• Sketching your first model
• Reshaping content
• Page design and navigation and more!

It’s ideal for IAs, UXers and content strategists working with deep content. Even if you’re new to IA you’ll can apply content modelling to your work.

Talk

Designing with Linked Data

This is not your usual UX talk. It’s a little about information architecture, a bit about content strategy, but mostly it’s about how we can use information floating around the web to build content-rich products, and how we should try harder to weave our work into the fabric of the network.

Linked Open Data lets us expose, share, and connect knowledge. A single, extensible network of information stretching across an increasingly semantic web, making our products more findable, and our content more reusable. It’s happening now. Used by the BBC to build their Music pages, the New York Times to build topic pages, and by Google and Facebook to build their knowledge graphs.

Where once we linked up pages, now we need to link up the underlying information and tell connected stories with the whole web.
